Stan today released the trailer for the upcoming Original Series Gnomes, premiering in October.
Evoking the beloved, splatter-gore spirit of classic 80s monster mashups like Gremlins and the dark laugh-out-loud humour of Hot Fuzz, the series stars Asa Butterfield (Sex Education) and Megan Smart (Stan Original Black Snow) and guarantees you’ll never look at a lawn ornament the same way again.
Senior Sergeant Arnold Kipps (Asa Butterfield) is having a totally sub-par day in suburbia. His ex-partner and ex-flame Ellie McKay (Megan Smart) has just returned to Nompton to shut down his police station, right when an ancient, evil force is awakened by the bloodthirsty Gnome Queen. Unleashing a nightmare horde of killer ceramic gnomes upon the unsuspecting town, Nompton is instantly plunged into pure, unadulterated chaos.
Armed with an array of unconventional weapons, and sheer desperation, Arnold and Ellie must reunite a ragtag team of misfit cops, rebellious teens, and an overly ambitious mayor to stop the Gnome Queen’s rampage before the entire town gets dug up from the roots. Because these lawn ornaments aren’t just angry—they’re out to smash faces and take names.
Adding to the mayhem are a host of beloved Australian stars, including Darren Gilshenan (Stan Original No Activity, Colin from Accounts), Alison Whyte (Stan Original Scrublands, Harrow), Tegan Higginbotham (Stan Original Jones Family Christmas), Matt Okine (Mother & Son, Stan Original The Other Guy), Brett Tucker (The Residence), Nicole Gulasekharam (Barracuda), and Luke McGregor (Rosehaven). The stellar ensemble cast also features Charlotte Nicdao (Mythic Quest), Emily Taheny (Stan Original Population 11), Nina Oyama (Deadloch), Ditch Davey (Roman Empire), alongside the fresh talent of Oliver Edis, Leigh Lule, George Rayias (Planet Lulin), Mila Hourmouzis (Spooky Files), and the menacingly regal Tess Haubrich (Spiderhead) as the Gnome Queen.
Gnomes is created by Joel Kohn (The Mirror). The scripts are written by Tegan Higginbotham and Paul F. Verhoeven. Matthias Hoene (Theodosia, Cockneys vs Zombies) is set-up director and an executive producer. Sian Davies and Joel Kohn also direct, with Kohn also co-producing. Total Fiction’s John Molloy (Barons, Stan Original The Gloaming) and Richard Kelly (The Tailings, Stan Original Jones Family Christmas) produce.
