Yesterday BritBox began the final case in the Susan Ryeland mysteries with Marble Hall Murders.
Marble Hall Murders is the third outing in the series based on Anthony Horowitz’s book, which began with Magpie Murders, followed by Moonflower Murders.
The method of this series is quite clever, with a present-day murder solved by book editor Susan Ryeland (Lesley Manville) entwined with a Golden Age murder mystery, solved by fictional detective Atticus Pünd (Tim McMullan).
When the third season beings, Susan is starting over in London following the end of her relationship in Greece. She’s been asked to work on an Atticus Pünd continuation novel – Pünd’s Last Case – which is being written by Eliot Grace (Jamie Blackley), the troubled grandson of legendary children’s author Miriam Crace (Patricia Hodge). But things aren’t as clear cut as they appear when Susan starts digging into Eliot’s family.
Meanwhile, our much-loved detective Atticus Pünd is drawn out of retirement when he gets caught up in a crime in Corfu, Greece.
Manville and McMullan shine bright in the opening episode, as Horowitz brings his own book to the screen with double the mystery.
