Sandy Roberts leaves Channel 7 for FOX Footy

One of Channel Sevens most loved presenters could be about to leave the network.

According to the Hearld Sun  s the Seven stalwart has been poached to call games and host programs on the football-only station.He is expected to inform Channel 7 of his departure today.

Roberts has not called games in recent seasons, but it is believed that after broadcasting to regional areas with radio callers Crocmedia he became confident he still had the fire in his belly.

He said in 2007 it was his decision not to call games for Seven given his weekday commitments with the network.

Roberts, 62, has been sports presenter on Seven’s 6pm News in Melbourne as well as other commitments during the Australian Open, AFL Finals, Good Friday Appeal, Melbourne Cup, Brownlow Medal, Australian Masters and Olympics.

But he hasn’t called AFL games for several seasons, and his son works at FOX Footy as a producer.

the Footy  network will use him not only as a caller but also as host of some of the network’s regular one-off specials.
