Last week, Stan released its newest original in Watching You.
Lina (Aisha Dee) is a paramedic engaged to Fire & Rescue worker Cain (Chai Hansen). We meet the duo as the two are role-playing as anonymous dates in bars before heading back to their NetShare accommodation for a night of passion.
When Cain drunkenly blacks out at a party, held by the couple’s influencer friends Axel (Luke Cook) and Clare (Laura Gordon), the charms of quietly confident Dan (Josh Helman) prove too strong for Lina to resist.
The following morning, Lina returns to the scene of their night together, searching for her missing engagement ring. Its here that she inadvertently discovers a tiny camera hidden in a bedside lamp.
Then in comes a text with a video of Lina’s indiscretion and Lina begins her quest to unmask her blackmailer.
It’s a quest full of twists and turns, and lots of uncertainty about who to trust.
Screenwriters Alexi Mizin and Ryan van Dijk use J.P. Pomare’s novel The Last Guests as more of an inspiration than a direct adaptation, but the elements of a psychological thriller are not-to-be-missed.
Dee and Helman continue to be stars on the rise and both give good performances throughout the 6-episode season.
