UK TV to air UK film and Music  Awards next month

UKTV is celebrating the glitz and glamour of awards season in February.

Considered one of the biggest nights in the film industry calendar, the EE British Academy Film Awards will be held at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, with British actress Joanna Lumley hosting for the second year running.

The awards are renowned for playing host to an impressive line-up of stars and regarded as an important indicator of the frontrunners for the Academy Awards

This year’s nominations reflect a stellar year in film, with The Favourite leading with 12 nominations; Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, First Man and Roma receiving seven nominations; Vice has six; Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman has five; with Cold War and Green Book receiving four each.

Australian actress Margot Robbie is nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her role of Queen Elizabeth I in the critically divisive Mary Queen of Scots. The film is also nominated for Costume Design, and Make Up and Hair. Australian screenwriter Tony McNamara is nominated for writing the screenplay for The Favourite along with Deborah Davis, while Australian production designer Fiona Crombie is also nominated for her work on the film.

 

The most anticipated night of the British music industry, the BRIT Awards 2019 with MasterCard will once again take place at London’s O2 Arena, with British comedian and writer Jack Whitehall set to host the event for the second year running.

Performers announced so far include No.1 selling British artist George Ezra, UK’s biggest pop group Little Mix and Critics Choice winner Jorja Smith for her first solo performance.

UK pop sensation Anne-Marie received four nominations across four different categories: British Female Solo Artist, British Single, British Artist Video of the Year and MasterCard British Album of the Year. Dua Lipa also received four nominations appearing twice in both the British Single and British Artist Video categories for One Kiss with Calvin Harris, and IDGAF.

Jorja Smith and George Ezra are up for three awards while The 1975, Calvin Harris, Rita Ora, Little Mix, Florence + The Machine, Jess Glynn, Clean Bandit, Tom Walker and Rudimental all receiving two nominations.

In the international categories, nominations for Male Solo Artist are Drake, EminemShawn Mendes, Travis Scott and Kamasi Washington with Ariana Grande, Cardi BCamila Cabello, Christine & The Queens and Janelle Monáe nominated for Female Solo Artist. The Carters (Beyoncé and Jay-Z), Brockhampton, First Aid Kit, Nile Rodgers & Chic and Twenty One Pilots all received nominations for International Group.
