Stan today announced that the brand new 10-episode fantasy series The Winter King will premiere in August
Starring Iain De Caestecker (The Control Room, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Eddie Marsan (The Thief, Deceit), Ellie James (Giri/Haji) and Nathaniel Martello-White (I Hate Suzie), The Winter King is a cinematic and imaginative reinterpretation of the Arthurian legend based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Warlord Chronicles series.
Set in a brutal land of warring factions and tribes, long before Britain was united, The Winter King follows Iain De Caestecker as Arthur Pendragon on his journey from outcast to legendary warrior and leader. A story of courage, sacrifice and passion, the original series is a bold revision of this enduring story.
The series also stars Stuart Campbell (Rogue Heroes, Clique) as Derfel, Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie, The Crown) as Owain, Valene Kane (The Fall, Gangs of London) as Morgan, Jordan Alexandra (Mammals) as Guinevere, and Simon Merrells (Good Omens, Knightfall) as Gundleus.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television-owned Bad Wolf, the series was filmed in Wales and the West Country. Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, His Dark Materials) serves as lead director and executive producer, alongside Toby Leslie.
The ensemble cast also features Steven Elder (The King, A Spy Among Friends) as Bishop Bedwin, Andrew Gower (Outlander, Carnival Row) as Sansum, Aneirin Hughes (Keeping Faith, Dream Horse) as Gorfydd, Emily John (My Policeman) as Ceinwyn, Tatjana Nardone (Devils, State of Consciousness) as Ladwyss, Ken Nwosu (Killing Eve, The Letter for the King) as Sagramor, and Billy Postlethwaite (The Great, Chernobyl) as Cadwys.
The series is executive produced and adapted by Kate Brooke (Bancroft, A Discovery of Witches) and Ed Whitmore (Silent Witness, Manhunt). Julie Gardner (Doctor Who, I Hate Suzie), Lachlan MacKinnon (Industry, A Discovery of Witches), Jane Tranter (His Dark Materials, Succession) Shelley Browning, and Kenneth L. Browning also serve as executive producers with Sherry Marsh (Pose, Vikings). The drama is produced by Catrin Lewis Defis for Bad Wolf, in association with One Big Picture. Sony Pictures Television is distributing The Winter King worldwide.
The brand new series The Winter King premieres August 21, same day as the U.S., only on Stan.
