Today Prime Video continues to expand its book-to-screen slate with The Love Hypothesis.
Our story follows Olive (Lili Reinhart), a Standford medical student researching pancreatic cancer. She’s in love with her friend Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), but he’s in love with Olive’s best friend Anh (Rachel Marsh), but Anh is too loyal to make a move on Olive’s crush. Putting aside her feelings, Olive lies and tells Anh that she’s moved on and is already seeing someone else.
The problem, however, is that there isn’t a someone else. And in a moment of panic grabs a random guy and kisses him, just so that Anh can see them together.
Now Olive has a bigger problem – the man she kissed is Dr Adam “Evil” Carlsen (Tom Bateman), the last person on campus that she should be kissing. With Adam needing to convince the board at Standford to renew his funding, there’s an easy solution to the situation they’ve inexplicably found themselves in: fake dating.
When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performances and reality, Olive is forces to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.
Adapted by Sarah Rothschild of Ali Hazelwood’s breakout novel, The Love Hypothesis is a return to the classic romcom. Reinhart is compelling and Bateman is also a delight as selling the ruse takes hold. And with smart music choices, it’s an easy watch.
Whether you’ve read the book or are going in blind, The Love Hypothesis is a must-watch for romance fans.
