The Last of Us Season 2 Review

The Last of Us Season 2 Review

After a two-year long wait, The Last of Us has finally returned to screens, this time on new streaming service MAX.

When we open the hotly-anticipated premiere, we pick up right where we left off with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) a quick refresher is below.

After an epic cross-country journey, Joel brings Ellie to a medical facility in the remains of Salt Lake City. There, they found a resistance group called the Fireflies, who are working on a cure for the zombie virus that has decimated the world. They believe that Ellie, who has a rare immunity to the virus, may be key to developing that cure.

Unfortunately, it turns out that this requires removing a piece of Ellie’s zombie-immune brain, ultimately killing her in the process. Joel couldn’t let that happen, so he kills Fireflies to save Ellie, lying to her by claiming that they couldn’t come up with a cure at all. In the final moments of season one, Ellie turns to Joel and says: “Swear to me that everything you said about the Fireflies is true.” He replies “I swear.”

Season two shifts perspective to reveal a group of surviving Fireflies in the process of burying their dead friends and family. The leader of the group, Abby (Kaitly Dever), has one thing on her mind: revenge.

With a time jump of five years, we find Joel and Ellie in Jackson, and the rest of the premiere sets the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Ramsey and Pascal continue their interesting dynamic in what will be a thrilling second season.
