The Last Anniversary Review

The Last Anniversary Review

Today Binge unleashes its next Australian original with The Last Anniversary.

When the series begins, we witness two drenched-to-the-bone teens – Connie and Rose – who battle to bring a rowboat ashore in a lashing storm, holding a newborn, whose parents Jack and Alice have disappeared.

Fast-forward to the present time where we meet that baby, Enigma (Helen Thomson) as a now older woman, having been raised by sisters Rose (Miranda Richardson) and Connie (Angela Punch-McGregor). When Connie passes, she gives the house on Scribbly Gum Island to the mysterious Sophie (Teresa Palmer), a journalist who is the ex-girlfriend of Connie’s grandson Thomas (Charlie Garber).

It’s a bold move that upsets the family, which consists of Connie’s daughter Margie (Susan Prior), her husband Ron (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor), and their daughter Veronika (Danielle MacDonald). Then there’s Enigma’s daughter Grace (Claude Scott-Mitchell), who is married to Callum (Uli Latukefu).

Based on Liane Moriarity’s novel, The Last Anniversary is wrapped in mysteries, and writer Samantha Struss does a wonderful job at laying the groundwork, giving the cast some brilliant material to work with as the series progresses.

The Last Anniversary is the perfect mystery for the cooler months, so settle in for a stay on the island.
