The Flight Attendant Review

Tonight, Foxtel and Binge take flight with the new HBO MAX series The Flight Attendant.

Our flight attendant is Cassie Bowden (Kaley Cuoco, The Big Bang Theory), who travel to exotic locations, usually serving first class passengers. Sounds like a pretty fun job right?

On a flight to Bangkok, she meets handsome businessman Alex Sokolov (Michiel Huisman, The Haunting of Hill House), who flirts with Cassie to the point of an almost mid-air hookup. When they arrive at their destination, he offers to show her the sights of the city. The pair have a night on the town which leads to a night of passion. But that’s when things take a turn. Cassie wakes up the following morning next to Alex’s dead body with zero idea about what happened.

Cassie then embarks on a journey to piece together the events of that night and her role in them. But is she guilty? Only time will tell.

Added to the mix of characters of Cassie’s best friend Annie (Zosia Mamet, Girls), who just happens to be a lawyer; and her older brother Davey (T.R. Knight, Grey’s Anatomy), who actually hears her encounter with another passenger who she forgot she invited over early on in the pilot before she crosses paths with Alex.

The major draw card here is, of course, Kaley Cuoco, who handles the journey with a commanding presence. Michiel Huisman is a delight and the chemistry they share oozies off the screen. Fellow flight crew Meghan (Rosie Perez) and Shane (Griffin Matthews) are hopefully developed as the show unravels its mystery.

Steve Yockey adapts the best-selling novel by Chris Bohjalian with a script that gives a clear indication that Cassie isn’t the most reliable of individuals, but just when you think you have her sussed out, there’s a few surprising twists and turns. With each episode, clocking in at 40 minutes, it’s a tight thrill ride that ends with a cliffhanger, beginning you to continue watching.

With international travel off the agenda for the foreseeable agenda, let The Flight Attendant take you on a trip full of thrilling surprrises.

4 Stars
