The Block main bedroom and walk-in robe week begins

Tonight reality bites as the Blockheads begin their biggest challenge yet, the main bedroom and walk-in robe. With a $20,000 budget and high expectations from the judges, the teams face large spaces, ambitious design plans and the lingering fallout from Courtney and Sev’s controversial bathroom win.

The open for inspections intensifies tensions. Most teams admire Adam and Jolene’s finishes and design details, while also sympathising with Lisa and Rosco’s unfinished bathroom. But Courtney and Sev’s winning room comes under scrutiny, with several contestants questioning the workmanship and arguing House 1 was robbed. The result leaves Jolene frustrated and Courtney and Sev feeling judged rather than celebrated.

The fallout changes the mood on site. Chantel and Wyatt realise their decision to lend trades helped House 4 secure the win and decide they will no longer share their tradies, believing it could cost them the competition.

Design plans begin to take shape across the houses. Courtney and Sev must work with a wardrobe choice inherited from Lisa and Rosco, softening the “blush box” with custom carpet, Grafico walls, curved joinery, a dropped bulkhead and a possible electric fireplace. Tayla and Rick clash over a late curved-wall idea, but Rick eventually agrees it could become a standout feature alongside venetian plaster walls and an oversized headboard.

Uptown, the larger 40-square-metre bedrooms give Houses 1, 2 and 3 plenty of opportunity but also plenty of pressure. Lisa and Rosco are determined to recover from last week with a calm, textural, neutral master suite. Adam and Jolene reset with a bolder plan, including a recessed feature wall and curved luxury detail. Chantel feels overwhelmed by the scale of the room but aims for “quiet luxury” with curves, venetian plaster, marble bedside tables, soft lighting and a warmer palette.

Progress quickly separates the teams. Dan stresses the importance of getting flooring down early, and Houses 3 and 5 lead the pack after ordering materials on time. Adam acts by hiring a Ute to collect plywood, while Courtney and Sev are delayed waiting on their flooring. Chantel and Wyatt fall further behind as Wyatt struggles with a cracked tooth, avoids the dentist, then finally books an appointment, leaving Chantel to push on with insulation.

There are bright spots amid the stress. Adam wins the McCafé Hardest Worker award and $5,000, while all teams visit Reece to plan their upcoming ensuites. Courtney and Sev clean up their chaotic workspace before enjoying their Chery getaway at Chadstone Hotel, complete with a special E&S dining experience with royalty Rob Sinclair and Scott after their major $250,000 kitchen upgrade win.

By the end of day one, Lisa and Rosco and Rick and Tayla are moving strongly, Courtney and Sev are behind after leaving site early, Adam and Jolene are chasing the pace, and Chantel and Wyatt are the furthest behind. The day ends on a warmer note at the share house, where former Blockheads Ben and Emma offer advice over dinner. In a heartfelt private moment, Lisa and Rosco reveal they are pregnant, echoing Ben and Emma’s own experience from the previous season.
