Star Trek: Picard Review

Today, Amazon Prime Video unleashes the next instalment in the Star Trek franchise with Star Trek: Picard, but should you jump aboard the adventure?

When we dive into Picard, it’s the beginning of the 24th Century, and Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) is having dreams about the time he’s spent in space when he awakens, now living the quiet life at his vineyard chateau having retired from Starfleet over a decade ago.

Meanwhile, in Boston, a mysterious young woman, Dahj (Isa Briones), is celebrating some great news when her life changes forever as she seeks out Picard, who’s just given an interview on the anniversary of the Romulus Supernova. Questions are raised as to just who this mysterious person is and what does she want with Picard? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

The casting here is top-notch, and Patrick Stewart steps back into one his most iconic character with such ease that it’s if he never left. Isa Briones takes on her first lead role with an intriguing performance that is definitely one to watch.

Written by Akiva Goldsman and James Duff, the first episode of Star Trek: Picard balances the legendary character past while bringing him into the future for a new generation. If you haven’t seen a single Star Trek episode before, there’s no need to worry as this series will still make sense. A wonderful character-driven drama, you’re guaranteed to be hooked by the end of episode one.

Get ready to board for the next adventure, because it’s certainly one you won’t want to miss.
