Stan to Premiere  The Walking Dead: Dead City

Stan today announced that it has secured the exclusive rights in Australia to The Walking Dead: Dead City ., as well as two other brand new highly anticipated The Walking Dead Universe series, launching exclusively on Stan in 2023 and 2024.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon led by Norman Reedus will also be available exclusively on Stan later this year and the Untitled Rick and Michonne series with Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, will premiere in 2024.

Fan favourites Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan. Years have passed since we last saw Maggie and Negan and the old enemies must now form a tenuous alliance in order to carry out a dangerous mission. Maggie and Negan travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland, where they discover that the crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. But as the pair moves deeper into the gritty depths of the walker-infested city, it becomes apparent that the traumas of their tumultuous past may prove just as great a threat as the dangers of the present.

Stan Chief Executive Officer Martin Kugeler said: “We are thrilled that AMC Networks have chosen Stan, the leading local service in Australia, and entrusting us with the next three spin-offs in their exceptional The Walking Dead Universe. Over the past months, there has been an increase in premium content to licence in Australia, which we have predicted for some time now, and the successful acquisition of The Walking Dead spin-offs is not only a win for Stan but also Australian audiences. We will continue to provide our subscribers with outstanding Stan Originals complemented by world-class shows from the US, UK and the rest of the world.”

Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said: “The Walking Dead is a television phenomenon that has captured fans all over the globe, and we cannot wait to bring the next iteration of the franchise to Australian audiences. These three spin-off series will hero some of the most iconic and well-loved characters from The Walking Dead, continuing their journey and promising an exciting expansion to The Walking Dead Universe. With internationally renowned cast like Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, the excitement over these brand new series is a testament to the franchise’s loyal and faithful fanbase.”

The six-episode series also stars Gaius Charles (Roswell, New Mexico), Željko Ivanek (Madam Secretary) and Logan Kim (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), amongst others. From showrunner and executive producer Eli Jorné, The Walking Dead: Dead City is also executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, Brian Bockrath, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Walking Dead: Dead City marks the next instalment of The Walking Dead Universe. Premiering later this year, popular cast member Norman Reedus will return in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, with his iconic character Daryl washing ashore in France and struggling to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan. The series also stars Clémence Poésy (The Essex Serpent) and Adam Nagaitis (Red Rose).

Finally, the Untitled Rick and Michonne series will debut in 2024. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reunite to continue the journey of Rick Grimes and Michonne. An epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

The brand new series The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere June 19, same day as the U.S., only on Stan.
