Passenger Review

Today Britbox unveils its next crime original in Passenger

Centered around the lives of the residents of a small, close-knit, fictional town of
Chaddar Vale, who are grappling with their deep-seated fears of change, outsiders and
the unknown. Former Met Police Detective Riya Ajunwa (Wunmi Mosaku), who moved
to the town five years ago before her life fell apart now yearns for a significant case,
something that will reignite her purpose- something more than the typical mysteries of
missing recycling bins or dealing with protestors at an intended fracking site, owned by
Jim (David Threlfall). Riya’s needs may be answered when something far more bizarre
unfolds.

A local girl, Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson), is driving with her friend Mehmet (Shervin
Alenabi) through the woods one night after a bust up with her boyfriend, John (Jack
James Ryan). The following morning, Mehmet is in his bed, Katie is myseriously
missing… Only to reappear the following day, seemingly unharmed.

While the others quickly move on from it, Riya’s unsettled. Her concerns grow as more
and more unusual occurrences and shock crimes plague the town, but the townsfolk
resist and dismiss her attempts to investigate- but what, exactly, is driving their fears?

Tensions are further pushed when Chaddar Vale is shaken by the news that Eddie
Wells (Barry Sloane), who was sentenced for 10 years for stabbing Jim, is being
released early. Eddie is Katie’s father and is not welcome in town.

Will Riya solve the mystery of Katie’s dissappearance? Only time will tell.

Created by debut screenwriter Andrew Buchan, Passenger is full of twists and turns
with a memorable performance by Mosaku and deserves a space on your watchlist.
