Thou Shall Not Steal Review

Today Stan releases its newest original in Thou Shall Not Steal.

When our story begins, we meet 17-year-old Robyn (Sherry-Lee Watson) in “nineteen-eighty-something.” Declared a thief, she’s in juvenile detention, but her time behind bars doesn’t last long when she breaks out to meet up with her dying grandfather, Ringer (Warren H Williams) in hospital. Ringer has his own mission to retrieve a cup, so the pair embark on an adventure. But with Ringer’s failing help, he’s forced to reveal a secret – Robyn’s father, who she believed to be dead, is actually alive and all the answers lie on the cup.

Before she can fully embark on her adventure, Robyn crosses path with Gidge (Will McDonald), an outsider stuck in the outback with his dodgy preacher father Robert (Noah Tyler). Seeing a opportunity to escape and return home to his mother, the pair begin a quest for answers.

But Robert is on their trail with Maxine (Miranda Otto), who wants her taxi back that the teens are travelling in. Are they going to be able to find the answers they seek before they get caught?

Writer-director Dylan River and co-creator Tanith Glynn-Maloney have done something special here throughout the eight 30-minute episodes. There’s crime, drama, and comedy spread over a road trip adventure filled with character and action.

Tyler and Otto are the drawcards, but its Watson and McDonald who shine as their polar opposite characters on a journey. There’s also a stacked guest cast that includes Darren Gilshenan, Shari Sebbens, Fletcher Humphrys, Damian Walshe-Howling, Geoff Morrell, Justin Rosniak, and Bonnie Sveen.

Spend the day with Robyna and Gidge in this enjoyable hour road trip.
