Holy soap plot twist Batman! Neighbours closed out its first episode back with a jaw-dropping wedding surprise.
The highly-anticipated wedding was for Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) and Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney). Yes, you read that right – after the two-year time-jump, Toadie and Terese are in love and are getting hitched!
There was a lot of misdirection throughout the season premiere, starting with Lucy (Melissa Bell) asking her big brother Paul (Stefan Dennis) is he had any misgivings about the day, and his response was that he had none. It quickly becomes clear that the bride-to-be is Terese, with Imogen (Ariel Kaplan) and Daniel (Tim Phillipps) back in Erinsborough to support her on this happy day. Terese’s other daughter, Piper (Mavournee Hazel), appears to be less supportive of the upcoming union, having chosen to stay in Adelaide.
Meanwhile, Melanie (Lucinda Cowden) and Toadie have a brief conversation about what to give a groom who’s been married six times. Given how the “final” episode concluded last year – Melanie and Toadie happily married and Paul and Terese reunited – everything seems to be aligning with Paul and Terese finally renewing their vows.
Except when we see Terese walking down the aisle, it’s Toadie who’s waiting for her at the alter!
Also back in Erinsboroguh to celebrate the union is Angie Rebecchi (Lesley Baker), Callum Rebecchi (Morgan Baker), and Harold Bishop (Ian Smith).
When we return to the drama of Ramsay Street tomorrow, the wedding proceeds to the reception and we are offered a few clues about what has transpired in the past two years. And it’s certainly a doozy!
While the wedding is a key focal point, fans will start growing concerned for our old favourite Harold, who doesn’t seem to be his usual bubbly self. What is going on with Jelly Belly, and will the rest of Ramsay Street notice something is off with him?
In the wise hands of Sarah Mayberry, the episode guides us through another unforgettable Neighbours wedding which offers hints at both the past and the future of our favourite neighbours.
