Mick and Matt blitz their rivals to win Comeback Kitchen
The Tasmanian father and son team earn a place back in Kitchen HQ to join the Top 5.
In an adrenaline-packed last episode of Comeback Kitchen last night Tasmania’s Mick and Matt were crowned the victors and given a second chance at the My Kitchen Rules title.
After three successful nights serving to a packed restaurant, Mick and Matt believe they’ve learnt invaluable skills to take back and use against their culinary challengers.
“People don’t realise what it’s like to work in a kitchen like this,” said a teary Matt after winning. “I’m tipping every restaurant I ever go to for the rest of my life. They’re getting a good tip I tell you.”
Comeback Kitchen mentor, chef Colin Fassnidge, complimented the boys’ efforts over the last three weeks, telling them: “Cooking is about inspiration, it’s about passion, it’s about love and you two have got it.”
They presented two amazing plates to knock out their competitors with hosts Pete Evans and Manu Feildel blind tasting their dishes and praising them both highly.
“I think the venison has been cooked so well, it’s tender, it’s juicy, it melts in the mouth. You nearly don’t need a knife really. I love the sweetness the cabbage brings,” said Manu of their main course.
Pete added: “It’s a nice sauce and it goes well with the venison … I think if anyone had any aversions to eating venison, if they were served this they would fall in love with it.”
With Matt taking charge of the chocolate tart with raspberries dessert, Manu was glowing with praise.
“This is rich, this is sweet, this is bitter… this is fantastic! This is exactly what a chocolate tart should be,” he said with Pete adding: “The raspberries cleanse the palate making you want to go back for more.”
The Tassie boys return to the competition will no doubt shock the other finalists – Queensland’s Dan and Steph and Jake and Elle, NSW’s Luke and Scott and Victoria’s Sam and Chris – who have been unaware of the redemption being offered to eliminated contestants after leaving MKR’s Kitchen Headquarters.
All five teams will face one last test tomorrow night when they design an amuse bouche, before the semi-finals on Tuesday and Wednesday. The My Kitchen Rules Grand Final will air on Sunday at 6:30pm.
My Kitchen Rules’ Grand Final week airs Monday-Wednesday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 6:30pm on Seven.
