Foxtel has announced an exclusive with Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett to air in July. 

In a Foxtel world exclusive, MAX was invited into the recording studio to capture the making of Peter Garrett’s debut solo album A Version of Now. A collection of nine songs Garrett couldn’t help but create, A Version of Now is Garrett’s first official foray into music in more than a decade.

Planned for release on Friday July 15, the album A Version of Now features Peter Garrett on vocals; Martin Rotsey (Midnight Oil) on guitar; Mark Wilson (Jet) on bass guitar; Peter Luscombe (Paul Kelly / Rockwiz) on drums; Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss) on guitar; Heather Shannon (The Jezabels) on  keyboards; and Burke Reid as Producer. Available today, the single “Tall Trees” is the first taste of the record.

MAX was there to film exclusive behind the scenes footage of this deeply personal record. Peter Garrett: A Version of Now – The Full Storyon MAX gives viewers unprecedented access and features candid interviews with Garrett and his musical collaborators.

One of Australia’s most influential artists, Peter Garrett was lead singer of Midnight Oil from 1975 to 2002, before entering a career in politics. The process of writing his memoir ‘Big Blue Sky’, published in October 2015, kicked off Garrett’s return to music and was the inspiration for many of the tracks on his new album.

 

Midnight Oil is renowned worldwide for their fierce independent stance and active support of human rights and environmental protection. More than just a successful rock and roll band, the “Oils” stopped traffic, inflamed passions, inspired fans and broke new ground. Their 13-album career led to an ARIA lifetime achievement award in 2006. Midnight Oil recently announced they will commence an Australian tour and play overseas gigs commencing in early 2017.

This exclusive MAX television special, Peter Garrett: A Version of Now – The Full Story, tells the story on how Garrett’s solo album accidently came to be and will premiere Tuesday July 12 at 9.30pm only on Foxtel.
