Magpie Murders coming to BritBox

BritBox Australia will be the exclusive home of Magpie Murders premiering on the streaming service in June

2022. Inspired by the best-selling novel Magpie Murders written by award winning mystery writer Anthony Horowitz (Stormbreaker, Foyle’s War, Midsomers Murders, Alex Rider), this will be the first time the novel has been adapted for television.

Lesley Manville (The Crown, Mum, Phantom Thread) leads a stellar cast including veteran British stage and screen actor Tim McMullan (Foyles War), BAFTA nominated Daniel Mays (1917, Line of Duty), Pippa Haywood (Bodyguard, Bridgerton); Michael Maloney (The Crown, The Trial Of Christine Keeler) and double Olivier award-winning Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones).

Magpie Murders is a crime drama with a unique twist. This intriguing series is a murder mystery within a murder mystery, spanning two time periods (1950s and contemporary Britain), with the cast portraying multiple characters in different literary dimensions.

Susan Ryeland (Manville) is the editor for infamous, best-selling mystery writer Alan Conway (Hill). When she receives an unfinished Conway manuscript featuring his hugely popular detective Atticus Pünd (McMullan), she is set on a path with little idea that it will change her life forever.

Moira Hogan, Country Manager of BritBox Australia says: “Anthony Horowitz pulls you in with this compelling story where a book editor falls into a real life murder mystery. The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat as the story revisits classic and modern crime story telling. It’s an honour for BritBox to be working with such a renowned writer and turn his award winning novels into a series with a star studded cast.”

The six part series is directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty, Military Wives, The A Word), and produced by Eleventh Hour Films for MASTERPIECE and BritBox UK. Magpie Murders will be exclusively coming to BritBox Australia.
