Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles Set for October premiere on Prime Video

Today, Prime Video announced that Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles will launch globally in October

The highly anticipated Australian Original documentary celebrates icons in entertainment The Wiggles, their enduring global success, and cultural impact spanning more than 30 years. Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles becomes the latest addition to the Prime membership. Prime members in Australia enjoy savings, convenience, and entertainment, all in a single membership.

This is the improbable story of The Wiggles, four friends who recorded a one-off album of children’s music in the early ‘90s and changed the global music industry forever. Recognisable by their blue, red, yellow, and purple skivvies, Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page, and Jeff Fatt become an unlikely music phenomenon, equipped with early childhood teaching fundamentals and a dose of self-belief. Surmounting numerous rejections from industry producers, The Wiggles take their career into their own hands and become the most successful children’s act of all time.

“No other children’s act has come close to emulating the same global success and impact of The Wiggles,” said Tyler Bern, head of content, Prime Video Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. “This film brilliantly encapsulates the phenomenon that is The Wiggles and is a celebration of their lasting legacy as they continue to bring joy and music to people worldwide. The definitive story of a band that is beloved by millions, Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles is a never-before-seen look at their rise and the challenges they’ve overcome throughout the years. We know our customers will enjoy the hit of nostalgia it brings.”

“At first glance, the notion of preschool teachers selling out Madison Square Garden is downright absurd,” said director Sally Aitken. “What a phenomenal story for a director to unpack: How did a group of teachers become like The Beatles for preschoolers? I have been entertained and moved in making this film, discovering an amazing journey of self-belief and the power of purpose. The Wiggles’ story comes with heartache and joy, reinvention, and the wisdom of children. So grab your tissues and your smiles, because with intimate interviews and unique, behind-the-scenes moments, I hope you see the individuals behind the iconic sweaters; musicians and artists driven by genuine passion, resilience, reinvention, and joy.”

Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles is a backstage pass to one of the world’s greatest entertainment stories, and features decades of personal archive footage and intimate access to their sold-out shows. It’s the story of a life of music, friendship, joy, and the enduring power of the child in all of us.
