Today Binge begins its fresh season of breakout Aussie original High Country.
When this new chapter opens, nine months have passed since the events of the previous season. Andie (Leah Purcell), her colleagues and family are dealing with the fallout of Sam’s (Ian McElhinney) devastating double confession that he murdered people AND that he’s Andie’s biological father.
It isn’t long before we are drawn into a new chase when Andie and Benalla Detective Glenn Gilmour (Brendan Cowell) attend the gruesome scene of a murder aboard a houseboat. Unfortunately for Glenn, the body turns out to be that of his brother Tom. And to top it all off, Tom’s wife Sarah and daughter Emily are missing.
Assisting Andie is the more mature Reza (Matt Domingo) and new senior constable at Brokenridge Stella (Ariadne Sgouros).
The past also lingers with Helen (Sara Wiseman) and Andie having become distant in their separation, but Helen is determined to earn Andie’s trust back. Meanwhile daughter Kirra (Pez ‘Perry’ Warner) has developed a keen interest in photography, and her relationship with Ben (Pedrea Jackson) is going strong. However, Ben’s dad Owen (Aaron Pederson) is growing weary of his job.
Penned by John Ridley, Marcia Gardner, Kim Wilson and Beck Cole, the series grips from episode one, with the personal and professional sides of Andie getting equal screen time in the first two episodes screened for this review. Purcell continues to shine, as does Cowell.
On top of the returning faces, a bunch of Australia’s favourites also join the fold, including Nadine Garner, Ryan Corr, and David Field.
Return to the high country to solve a compelling mystery, with excellent performances that will have you gripped until the final scene.
