Today marks 30 years since the residents of Erinsborough burst on to our screens.
It was 5:30 pm on Monday March 18 1985 Australia was about to welcome a new regular soap called Neighbours on Channel 7. It lasted 170 episodes on the network before getting cut due to low ratings after just 7 months.
Luckily there was a saving grace in Network Ten who picked up the show straight away and started screening the series with episode 171 on 20 January 1986. After Ten picked up the series A number of new cast joined the soap including Anne Charleston, Kyile Minogue Jason Donovan and Guy Pierce.
One of the series most popular wedding was between Charlene (Kyile Minogue and Scott (Jason Donovan) which turned the actors into stars overnight. Other cast that got there start on Neighbours include Delta Goodrem, Alan Dale, Holly Valance, Natalie Imbruglia Sam Clark and Margot Robbie.
Tonight the soap celebrates 30 years on air with episode 7083 which will see Amber Turner and Daniel Robinson’s wedding day arrive but in true Neighbours style not everything goes smoothly (You can read a review of the show’s 30th anniversary here )
To finish off I take you way back when 11 year old Ryno finally got hooked on Neighbours.
