Australia take on Brazil in their Davis Cup qualifying tie in Adelaide this Friday and Saturday, with all matches broadcast live on 9Gem.
With Alex de Minaur and Nick Kyrgios injured, John Millman will be Australia’s highest-ranked player in the tie to be played at the newly redeveloped Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.
Captained by Lleyton Hewitt, the Australian team also includes James Duckworth, Jordan Thompson, Alex Bolt and John Peers.
Playing for Brazil will be Thiago Monteiro, Joao Menezes, Thiago Seyboth Wild, Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves and Marcelo Demoliner. The Brazilians will be captained by Jaime Oncins.
Thompson will be the first Australian on court, playing Thiago Monteiro, in tomorrow’s first match. This will be followed by Millman’s clash with Thiago Seyboth Wild.
Saturday’s doubles match will feature James Duckworth and John Peers against Marcelo Demoliner and Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves, before the reverse singles.
Both countries are playing for a spot in the Davis Cup finals. The winner will join 11 other qualifiers, the 2019 semi-finalists Canada, Great Britain, Russia and Spain, as well as the two 2020 wildcards, France and Serbia, in November in Madrid.
Australia has met Brazil in the Davis Cup on three occasions and triumphed each time. Their last meeting was a World Group quarter-final on clay in Brazil in 2001. Australia won that tie 3-1.
Clint Stanaway will host Nine’s broadcast, with commentary from Todd Woodbridge, Sam Groth and Tom Rehn.
Friday from 1.30pm & Saturday from 12.30pm AEDT on 9GEM (Live in all states).
