Crime Review

Today, Britbox releases a new series in the form of Crime.

When we begin, the crime is revealed to be the disappearance of 13-year-old Britney Hamill on her way to school. Tasked with finding her is Detective Inspector Ray Lennox (Dougray Scott). And following the retirement of his partner, Chief Superintendent Bob Toal (Ken Stott) pairs him with DS Amanda Drummond (Joanna Vanderham) to solve the crime.

Their partnership doesn’t go unnoticed by smug colleague DI Dougie Gillman (Jamie Sives), who has his own case investigating the deaths of a French couple, which may actually intersect with Ray’s case.

Ray believes Britney has been abducted by the serial killer known as ‘Mr Confectioner’. Ray’s on a mission to prove his hunch is right, but to do so, he needs to keep his personal issues as a recovering alcoholic with anger issues in check.

Dougray Scott takes on the complex character of Ray with a solid performance that may just be one of his best. Joanna Vanderham is also compelling as the drama unfolds throughout the six-part series.

Writer Irvine Welsh gives a crime procedural some captivating twists which will have you reaching for the next episode.

It’d be a crime to miss this British crime drama.
