Next week Showcase will air the must see documentary Back on Board: Greg Louganis
An intimate and candid profile of the public triumphs and private struggles of the Olympic gold medal diver and LGBT trailblazer – Greg Louganis. Four-time Olympic gold medallist Greg Louganis is recognized as the greatest diver in history, but his biggest impact may ultimately come from being one of the first openly gay athletes in America.
This 90-minute documentary looks at the public triumphs and private struggles of this LGBT trailblazer, utilizing rare archival footage (including his near- disastrous head injury at the ’88 Olympics) as well as recent footage of Louganis, now 55, as he struggles to keep his finances afloat after a series of misfortunes nearly left him homeless. Back on Board: Greg Louganis traces the story of this transcendent athlete from a difficult childhood, through his Olympic conquests, to a transformative post- Olympic life, outlining the discrimination and other obstacles he has faced throughout his remarkable journey. Back on Board: Greg Louganis won the audience award at the Outfest LA Film Festival and the Connecticut LGBT Film Festival, and was named best documentary feature film at the Annapolis Film Festival. The LA Examiner called the film “A perfect 10,” and “a master class in documentary film making,” while the Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Anyone who doubts that documentaries can have the dramatic and emotional power of the best narrative films should see the Greg Louganis doc Back on Board,” describing it as a “rich, satisfying story, skilfully told.”
Back on Board: Greg Louganis airs Sunday March 6 at 8.30pm with an encore screening on Friday March 11 at 7.30pm on Showcase.
