former Cricket star Andrew Symonds has taken out Celebrity Splash.
Two-time World Cup winner Symonds managed a half-twist dive off the 10m platform to be named the champion during the 90-minute finale, which was merged with the semi-final after it was removed from the programming schedule.
he took the crown from Tamsyn Lewis, Koby Abberton and Derek Boyer.
Symonds credited his sporting background with giving him the confidence to get through the show.
“I wasn’t incredibly nervous up there. There were a few nerves, which I think is good, but I had everything sort of under control,” he said.
“I actually enjoyed the pressure and the build up to diving on the night.
“It’s rewarding to win because it was quite challenging and difficult at times, especially mentally.”
Symonds said that bruising and sore shoulders were his only injuries and added that he felt training at top level graded sport helped him to overcome injury.
“Some of the other contestants talked about having trouble diving in front of the crowd and under lights. I was able to draw on some of those big games of cricket I played in to sort of gather my thoughts and calm myself just before I dived.”
