2019 Gold Logie Countdown – Eve Morey

2019 Gold Logie Countdown – Eve Morey

Last, but by certainly no means least, is our lone actress in this year’s Gold Logie nominees, Eve Morey – how did this actress reach the top?

Morey’s first television role came in 1999 when she played Lucy Green on Nine’s Pig’s Breakfast until the show’s conclusion in 2000. In 2000 she was accepted into NIDA, graduating in 2004 and undertaking some theatre productions until 2009. During this time she had guest appearances on All Saints, Home and Away, and Blind Date.

It was in 2009 that Morey got her breakout and most well-known role – Sonya Mitchell on Ten’s soap opera Neighbours. Originally a guest role, she won over the viewers so much that she was promoted to regular the following year. Throughout her ten-year tenure on Ramsay Street, Morey was given some truly memorable storylines including Sonya being revealed as Callum’s mother, her relationship with Toadie Rebecchi, and dealing with drug and alcohol addictions.

However, it was Morey’s departure storyline earlier this year that truly cemented her Gold nomination – Sonya’s Ovarian Cancer diagnosis and eventual death. The episode will no doubt go down as one of the most memorable deaths in Australian television history.

Tonight, Eve will be vying for her first Logie, both the Gold and Most Popular Actress. On top of that Neighbours has received its first ever Most Outstanding drama nomination, and the first Most Popular Drama nomination since 2011.

Having bid farewell to Ramsay Street, will Eve be able to take home the Gold to truly wrap up such a memorable performance?
