‘The Checkout’ sued by Swisse

Avni Sali, father of Swisse chief executive Radek Sali, has filed a lawsuit against ABC1’s The Checkout.

Sali told Fairfax that a segment that described the Swisse brand as one that ‘‘highlights everything that’s wrong with the regulation of natural medicines in Australia’’ ‘‘severely injured… his reputation and standing’’.

A writ filed with the Victorian Supreme Court claims that The Checkout defamed him by saying he ‘‘manipulated’’ clinical tests of a Swisse appetite suppressant to benefit the company.

Reucassel, Julian Morrow, and CJZ executive producer Nick Murray and the ABC are named as defendants.

“We deny all the ridiculous imputations and will be defending it vigorously,” said Murray.

The Checkout has a team of four lawyers, however ABC itself has yet to file a defense. This is far from the first time the Chaser team have landed in hot water.

The Checkout airs Thursdays at 8pm on ABC1
