Via Press Release:
The contestants on The Block Sky High get set for the ultimate dose of reality when all their hard work goes up for auction in the nailbiting grand finale on Sunday, July 28, at 6.30pm on Chanel Nine.
The auctions will bring Australia’s favourite realty reality game to a head. Will the exhausted couples be rewarded by the buying public when their five renovated luxury apartments go under the hammer?
Almost three months ago five couples took their first look at a tired, former South Melbourne hotel block and were set the daunting challenge of converting each floor into an amazing, high-end, house-sized apartment.
The Block Sky High has been a ratings smash since that day, featuring a state versus state battle of couples from around the nation:
LEVEL 1: Alisa (29) and Lysandra (29) from Adelaide, SA – identical twins
LEVEL 2: Matt (33) and Kim (32) from Perth, WA – engaged for one year
LEVEL 3: Bec (27) and George (28) from Melbourne, VIC – married three years
LEVEL 4: Madi (24) and Jarrod (24) from Sydney, NSW – married two years
LEVEL 5: Trixie (38) and Johnno (41) from Brisbane, QLD – parents of three
Australia has fallen in love with this year’s Blockheads who have sacrificed so much by leaving their homes and their families, gone without sleep, and put their relationships to the ultimate test in transforming an entire floor of the hotel into a 220-square-metre luxury apartment with three bedrooms, a staggering five bathrooms and a sumptuous roof terrace with 360-degree views of Melbourne.
Each couple has engaged a real estate agent and is responsible for overseeing the marketing of their property for sale, fully furnished. Everything they put in throughout the renovation – every appliance, fitting and furnishing – goes to the buyer.
In the tradition of The Block, each couple will keep the profit from the auction of their own property. And after the last auctioneer’s hammer goes down, the couple whose property makes the most over reserve wins an additional $100,000.
Previous seasons of The Block have been a life-changing experience for many couples. Earlier this year Phil and Amity from Adelaide won The Block All Stars, taking home $375,000, while in 2012 Brad and Lara walked away with an astounding $606,000.
Across seven series The Block has distributed more than $4.3 million in prizemoney to contestants – with more to come after the auction grand finale of The Block Sky High.
The Block: Sky High Finale airs 6.30pm Sunday 28 July on Nine.
