Tonight Cocktail couple Alex & Emily (Gold Coast) versed the mums Kim & Suong (Melbourne) for the My Kitchen Rules title.
Being the grand final Teams must create a five-course menu, producing a total of 100 plates each for a packed restaurant of judges, family & friends and eliminated teams.
The teams’ menus were as follows.
Alex and Emily:
1st course: Tuna tartare with cumin and harissa oil
2nd course: Jamon wrapped lamb brains with caper mayonnaise
3rd course: Moroccan lobster with cauliflower and citrus tahini dressing
4th course: Pork belly with sprouts, apple and calvados sauce
5th course: Penicillin (lemon parfait, whiskey caramel, gingerbread crumb, honeycomb and ginger jelly)
Kim and Suong:
1st course: Wagyu in mustard leaf
2nd course: Quail with vietnamese xo sauce
3rd course: Tiger prawns with red sauce
4th course: Vietnamese beef stew
5th course: Coconut crème caramel with citrus salad
The finale’s magical dish was Alex and Emily’s dessert, Penicillin, which was served on a plate with dry ice which then smoked after a shot of whiskey was poured over it. The judges were wowed and it was time to score.
Despite having A five-course meal of love and heritage” according to Karen Martini the girls scored 52 out of 60. Meanwhile Alex and Emily’s adventurous and brave menu that pulled no punches led them to the win with a score of 55/60.
Despite missing out on the title were gracious in defeat with Kim: We’ve been given this opportunity and whatever we want we can go and get it after this” and Suong adding : “This has been a journey of a lifetime, the best team won today, we’re very proud of them and very happy for them”
On their win Emily says This is so surreal, I can’t believe it” Alex: “Winning MKR is our ticket to getting what we wanted, to making our dream a reality” Emily ends with: “Everything in our lives that we’ve worked towards… we’re finally going to own our own place” as they take home $250,000.
My Kitchen Rules will return for a 10th season next year.
