X Factor Farewells Four as Live Shows begin

Last night The X Factor farewelled four big acts as the finals began and delivered  some shock exits.

After receiving the least amount of viewer votes, artists Natalie Ong, Timmy Knowles, Time & Place and Maddison Milewski left The X Factor competition last night.

During the intense live decider, one act was eliminated from each of the four categories, leaving judges Adam Lambert, Iggy Azalea, Guy Sebastian and Mel B with two remaining contestants each.

In one of the biggest elimination shocks of the night, Adam Lambert was forced to bid an emotional farewell to 15 year-old Natalie Ong, who had the audience on their feet during Sunday night’s show with her version of When Love Takes Over by David Guetta.

“I’m so proud you.  You’re unbelievable, you’re a star,” he said of his departing Under 22’s contestant.  “Australia, this is only the beginning,” he said as he hugged Natalie before she left the stage.

“They’re all so amazing,” said Adam of his category. “All three of their performances slayed the rest of the competition last night.”

On leaving the competition, high school student Natalie was quick to praise her mentor: “I really look up to Adam. He’s really down to earth and cares about his singers; I’m so blessed to have him. Hands down, he’s the best mentor.”

In the Over 22 category, Guy Sebastian said goodbye to gigging singer Timmy Knowles who failed to win over voters with his acoustic version of Selena Gomez’s Can’t Keep My Hands to Myself.

Iggy Azalea’s boy band Time & Place failed to find form with their performance of Ride, by Twenty One Pilots.

When asked if she agreed with the verdict, Iggy said: “I have to trust Australia and what they want to see, I’m just here to make what they want to see better,” saying she hoped the boys’ elimination was just the beginning for them.

While Mel B’s Underdogs came out fighting, it wasn’t enough to save Maddison Milewski who covered Avicii’s Addicted to You.

But in the face of her elimination, Mel B was adamant Maddison’s music career wouldn’t end here.  “Maddison’s great. She’s only 16; she’s got so much more to give.  I’m sure this isn’t the last you’ll see of her.

The X Factor  continues Sunday at 7.00pm and Monday at 7.30pm.
