Warriors On The Field Review

This week, Prime Video releases its next Australian AFL original with Warriors On The Field.

Warriors On The Field, presented by Sydney Swans Premiership player and Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri and Narungga man Michael O’Loughlin, delves into the personal experiences of Indigenous players in the country’s most popular sports.

Sharing stories alongside O’Loughlin are current AFL players Michael ‘Sonny’ Walters, a proud Noongar man playing for the Fremantle Dockers, and up-and-coming North Melbourne young gun Tarryn Thomas, a Kamillaroi and Lumaranaana man originally from Sydney.

O’Loughlin and his mum Muriel take us right back to Michael’s early playing days before his was signed to the Swans at age 17. We are also given a deep insight about racism in sport and how things have developed over time.

Warriors On The Field highlights that to really understand what makes an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander player great, you must understand their connection to culture and country.

It’s an educating watch, deeply personal, and one of the best documentaries of the year. Whether you’re a sporting fan or not, this is definitely one to watch.
