Last week Prime Video released its newest Australian original in Top End Bub.
Top End Bub is the much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 rom-com Top End Wedding, where Lauren (Miranda Tapsell) and her wannabe-chef partner Ned (Gwilym Lee) had just gotten married on the Tiwi Islands after finding Lauren’s estranged mother Daffy (Ursula Yovich), who then reconnected with her husband Trevor (Huw Higginson).
When we return to the lives of these characters, we’re in Adelaide where Lauren is now running her own legal practice above Ned’s café. But the pair’s happy life is thrown off-course when Lauren and Ned return to Darwin after the death of Lauren’s sister Ronnelle (Shari Sebbens) and find themselves the legal guardians of her daughter Taya (Gladys-May Kelly).
Now the newlyweds are forced to navigate a new reality that neither had really wanted. Adding to the drama, Lauren makes the decision to try and track down the father that Bub’s has never known.
Creatives Tapsell and Joshua Tyler have expanded on the stories of the characters we’ve come to know and love, whilst still retaining the humour that we enjoyed in the original film. The returning cast continue to shine, with Gladys-May Kelly making a quiet but confident debut alongside some big names.
