Tom Oliver who has played the lovable Lou Carpenter since 1989 has farewelled Neighbours it has been revealed.
The 76 year old actor has stepped down from a regular role on the soap but will be back for guests stints when required.
Oliver who has been a part-time regular cast member since 2009 left screens on Friday night takeing his grieving grandson Bailey Turner ( Calen Mackenzie) away to live in Queensland following the death of his father Matt.
A Neighbours spokesperan says Tom has scaled back his workload over the past few years and while he will not be appearing as regularly on Neighbours, good news for the many Lou Carpenter fans is the producers have persuaded him to continue to do guest appearances.
The first of those appearances is a significant storyline and is expected to be on air later this year
