The marketing for the new season of The Walking Dead just got cooler.
A giant ‘Walker’ hand being installed on the Opera House steps, inviting hordes of fans and Sydney residents to join the countdown.
The decomposing hand is being installed ahead of the special advanced screening hosted by FX in the Concert Hall at GRAPHIC Festival this Sunday, which is an officially sold out event and did so in under 24 hours. The 4 metre high by 2.9 metre wide masterpiece protrudes eerily from the Opera House’s iconic steps, its rotting fingers welcoming fans to the gates of ‘Alexandria’.
FX Marketing and Digital Media Manager Jamie Zarzycki said ‘“When a giant Walker hand emerges from beneath the harbour through the Sydney Opera House steps it can mean only one thing… The countdown is well and truly underway for the eagerly anticipated premiere of the sixth season of The Walking Dead on FX. We are thrilled to be a part of the 2015 GRAPHIC festival line-up that will see a horde of DEADicated fans be amongst the first people in Australia to watch the extended premiere episode not only on the big screen but inside the iconic Sydney Opera House. We’ve been shuffling around behind the scenes with the team at the Sydney Opera House, Messina and GRAPHIC to deliver fans a staggering event that will be talked about for seasons to come.”
To add to the exclusive first taste of Season 6, FX and Messina have opened a pop up gelato store at the Opera House, giving DEADicated fans a chance to sink their teeth into a complimentary limited edition cup of ‘Carls Pudding’. The ‘Alexandria Ice Scream’ pop up store will be open during GRAPHIC’s weekend of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October from 12-4pm, and limited to 1000 units per day so run don’t walk if you want a bite of this delicious creation.
‘Making bloody fingers and edible brains from gelato was right up our street, so when FX came to us about the project we jumped straight into the kitchen to test how we could make something scary and delicious in one go. Fast forward a few days of tasting, testing and layers of chocolate gelato, we’ve made a Messina version of Carl’s Chocolate Pudding and thrown in some added surprises’ Declan Lee – Co-Owner Gelato Messina.
If you’re planning to check it out, keep a lookout for stray walkers roaming the area.
