Tonight, in a world-first twist, The Voice unveiled global superstar Tones And I’s game-changing superpower.
Hidden backstage in a secret surveillance room and completely unknown to fellow Coaches Melanie C, Ronan Keating, Richard Marx and Kate Miller-Heidke, Tones has the power to save artists who fail to secure a chair turn during the Blind Auditions.
“I’m so excited. The other Coaches have no idea that I’m even here,” said Tones.
“I feel like the fairy godmother, and I get to save all these beautiful Australian artists.”
Watching every audition unfold from behind the scenes, Tones And I can offer a lifeline to artists who don’t receive a chair turn. She then mentors them on Team Tones before sending them back into the Blind Auditions for a second chance.
The season’s first save went to NSW busker and youth worker Red Roy after his performance of APT. by Bruno Mars and Rosé failed to secure a chair turn.
While the Coaches felt his energetic stage movements distracted from his vocals, Tones And I saw something more.
“I did hear potential and that’s why I’m here, to give someone a second chance when they missed the mark on their first Blind Audition.” she said.
Tonight also delivered an extraordinary standard of talent, with 15-year-old powerhouse Daisha Auda from Logan, Queensland (Team Ronan), Katoomba artist Tommy Novak (Team Richard) and Woolongong freight train driver Josh McCauley (Team Melanie C) all earning four-chair turns.
Performing Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You, Daisha captivated the Coaches, with Melanie C declaring: “You didn’t just fill this room, you took the roof off.”
Tommy’s emotional rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide earned a standing ovation as Richard praised: “You are not a singer; you are an artist.”
Josh’s performance of Leon Bridges’ River sparked a fierce battle between the Coaches, with both Kate and Melanie C using their blocks during the four-chair showdown.
Phoebe Rose, a teenage country singer from Aroona, Queensland also impressed with a moving performance of Eva Cassidy’s Fields of Gold, securing a coveted three-chair turn and a spot on Team Ronan.
With the stakes higher than ever and a secret Coach operating behind the scenes, The Voice has entered a bold new era where a second chance could change everything.
