The Floor Review

It’s Nine’s fresh new format, up against established favourites, but should you take it to The Floor?

As the show begins, 81 trivia fanatics take each other in timed duels on a giant LED floor. Each player begins with one tile on the floor, representing their expert field of knowledge, with topics like ‘Logie Winners’, ‘Dogs’, ‘Kids Films’, ‘Aussie Tucker’, and more.

Their aim is to challenge and win their opponent’s tiles, earning them more territory on the floor. In the end, one person will conquer the entire floor and take home a whopping cash prize of $200,000.

To start the game a ‘Randomiser’ picks one contestant who then has to decide which of his or her neighbours on the grid to challenge. The topic will be one in which the challenged contestant is the expert. The two contestants step up to the podium to duel over the word or visual clues, taking turns to make their guesses. Each contestant has a bank of 45-seconds, with time starting when its their turn and stopping with each correct answer. Whichever contestant runs out of time first loses the duel.

The winning contestant takes over the losing contestant’s square, but if the winner is the person being challenged, they take over the challenger’s topic, one they may not be that well-versed in. The winner also gets the choice to stay on the podium and challenge someone else, or go back to the floor to let the Randomiser choose next.

Host Rodger Corser keeps things moving as trivia gets its time in the spotlight, with a few familiar faces also taking to the floor among the everyday Aussies.

The Floor is perfect for trivia buffs to test and show off their knowledge, and may just be the surprise hit of 2025.

3.5 Stars

The Floor airs Monday and Tuesdays at 7:30 pm on Nine from April 28.
