Matt woke feeling in control at Saanapu, having influenced the tribe to vote out Tegan at last night’s Tribal Council. Unbeknown to Matt, smiling assassins Brooke and Flick were well aware of his tactics and had plans to take him down.
Over at Vavau, tight-knit duo Craig and Jennah-Louise believed they were in control of the game and its players.
Aganoa’s hierarchy saw camp fire chief Rohan’s dictatorship putting his fellow castaways offside. Using the tribe’s discontent with Rohan to her advantage, a vulnerable Kat plotted to have him eliminated.
In tonight’s game-changing Immunity Challenge, host Jonathan LaPaglia informed the contestants that the win was not for immunity, but for a superior advantage in the game. In a second twist, details would be revealed only at the end of the challenge.
Fuelled by the suspense, the three tribes launched themselves into the water, using stepping poles to transfer tribe mates one by one between platforms. In a neck-and-neck race, Saanapu were first to the finish line.
Jonathan revealed that the three tribes would become two. Saanapu’s win meant they had the power to pick four new players for their tribe. The remaining castaways from Vavau and Aganoa would form one tribe.
Saanapu selected Lee, El and original member Sam to join the tribe. Jennah-Louise was Saanapu’s strategic fourth choice, breaking up her alliance with Craig.
Aganoa’s remaining players Kat, Kristie, Phoebe and Rohan merged with the remaining members of Vavau to form a new Vavau tribe.
The tribes were welcomed back to camp with picnics and chilled beers, but not everyone was playing happy families. Nick showed no remorse when confronted by an upset Jennah-Louise.
At Vavau, Phoebe and Rohan were feeling vulnerable, having lost their alliance with El and Lee.
Proving cats really do have nine lives, Kat was overjoyed about the merger and she got to work warning Kate about Phoebe and Rohan’s tactics.
In a final twist, Conner handed Craig a serviette containing another hidden Immunity Idol clue.
The new teams are: Saanapu – Nick, Matt, El, Brooke, Lee, Kylie, Flick, Sam and Jennah-Louise. Vavau – Craig, Andrew, Sue, Kate, Phoebe, Kat, Rohan, Kristie and Conner
