It is understood Roberts tendered his resignation to Seven after 34 years on Tuesday but will be required to serve out several months’ notice.
Roberts, 62, will continue to read the sports news on Channel 7 until his contract expires. after that he is expected to sign with FOX FOOTY.
Fox Footy director Rod Law is keen to secure Roberts for the 2013 AFL season but his contract will delay any official agreement.
“If Sandy ever becomes available I would very keen to talk to him,” Law said.
If Seven forces him to serve his full contract his move could be delayed until June but Fox Footy hopes to secure him earlier.
