Sesame Street reaches 1 billion views on YouTube

Today Sesame Street became the first nonprofit organisation to reach 1 billion channel views.

To mark the show’s milestone as the first nonprofit to reach 1 billion hits on the video-sharing site, Count Von Count did what he does best: counted.

In a video called “Counting the ‘You’s’ in YouTube,” the number-loving Muppet sang his way through all 1 billion views—an achievement the show has been working toward since mid-February.

In honor of the occasion, The Count penned a guest entry for the official YouTube blog, counting from zero to 1 billion.

“Today I want to pay tribute to one of my favorite numbers,” he said, explaining why the number zero is so important.

“Well, for one thing, zero comes in very handy when there is nothing around to count. Like right now, as I look around the castle, I count zero elephants, zero airplanes, and zero Justin Bieber CDs. Wonderful,” the Count mused.

ut zero can lead to much bigger numbers, like 100 — 100 seats in a movie theater, golf balls on a golf course, senators in the U.S. Senate. Add another zero and you reach 1,000. But The Count didn’t stop there, adding even more zeroes, finally reaching “a number so big, so great, and so huge”: 1,000,000,000.

“And it is all thanks to that lovely number zero,” he said. “Thank you, zero, you make counting a billion times more fun. By the way, that is 510 words, 512, 513, 514 … 515 words in my YouTube blog post! Ah-ha-ha!”
