Stan today released the official trailer for season two of the award-winning critically acclaimed comedy-drama series Ramy, premiering in May only on Stan.
Starring comedian Ramy Youssef, who received his first ever Golden Globe Award last year for his lead performance in the hit series; joining him this time is two-time Academy Award winner, Mahershala Ali.
Star of numerous films and television series such as Green Book, Moonlight, House of Cards and the upcoming Marvel movie Blade; the Hollywood actor was keen to play a role in Ramy after being a fan of the original series.
“I remember seeing an ad for the show on Instagram before it came out, and it immediately caught my attention and I messaged it to my wife, just on some like, ‘Oh, interesting Muslim content!'” recalls Ali, to Entertainment Weekly.
“He gets into what is problematic about taking certain actions and how as people we’re constantly having to wrestle with our choices and our desires, and at the end of the day really want to have peace and fulfilment and do strive to do what’s right.”
In Ramy season two, Mahershala Ali will be playing a Sheikh who mentors Ramy on his spiritual path.
Other cast members in the second season include Amr Waked, Mohammed Amer, Hiam Abbass, Dave Merheje, Stephen Way, May Calamawy, Rosaline Elbay and Shadi Alfons, who will all reprise their original roles.
