New US series Prodigal Son will begin on Fox One next month.
Prodigal Son is a new crime drama starring Tom Payne (‘Jesus’ in The Walking Dead) Michael Sheen (Underworld, Masters of Sex) and Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba).
Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) is a gifted criminal psychologist, using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother, a serial killer father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses.
Bright’s only ally is his sister, Ainsley (Halston Sage), a TV journalist who wishes her brother would take a break from murder and have a normal life. Unfortunately for his sister, the only way Bright feels normal is by solving cases with the help of his longtime mentor, NYPD Detective Gil Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillips). Arroyo’s one of the best detectives around, and he expects no less from his team, which includes Detective JT Tarmel (Frank Harts), a born-and-bred New Yorker who questions whether Bright is a psychopath himself.
In episode one, after being fired from the FBI for insubordination and antagonizing his colleagues, Malcolm Bright is hired as a consultant by his old friend, NYPD Lieutenant Gil Arroyo. On his first case, Malcolm discovers similarities between the killer and his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), an incarcerated serial killer known as “The Surgeon”. Against the advice of Gil and his long-suffering mother Jessica (Bellamy Young), Malcolm visits his father for the first time in ten years for help identifying the killer.
Prodigal Son screens from Wednesday November 13 at 8.30pm (AEDT) on Fox One
