In a Movie Night themed Dancing With The Stars extravaganza, the final credits rolled for Olympia Valance and partner Jarryd.
The celebrities upped the anti this week learning two spectacular dance routines to the soundtrack of some of the greatest films to splash on the silver screen.
It was an Oscar winning performance in the team dance when Team La La Land’s Jett, Jimmy, Courtney and Michelle took on Team Bohemian Rhapsody’s Curtly, Samuel, Olympia and Constance in a battle for points, but it was the playful La La Land medley that impressed the judges the most, securing the much needed 23 points each for the celebrities involved.
Knocking Queen Courtney off the top of the leader board last week, Olympia Valance’s determination to stay on top was evident tonight in her energetic jive to Chuck Berry’s You Never Can Tell from the cult movie classic Pulp Fiction. The fast-moving routine got the dance couple and the judges’ blood pumping but resulted in the not so high score of 19.
Facing the social media trolls head on, blogger Constance Hall channeled her inner warrior with her raw but strong paso doble to The Greatest Showman’s This Is Me. Declaring she felt “so alive and amazing!”, the emotionally charged routine earned her a score of 16.
West Indies fearsome fast bowler Curtly Ambrose couldn’t wipe the smile from his face in his joyful tango to ABBA’s party favourite, Mamma Mia. Unfortunately, his contagious smile was not enough to get the judges over the line and his performance was described as “stompy” and earned him a score of 11.
After a low scoring performance last week, Samuel Johnson left it all on the dance floor when he performed an honest and heartfelt rumba to A Star Is Born hit Shallow. Admitting he was struggling emotionally this week, Samuel dispensed some sage advice stating “dancing is a very powerful agent and we should all dance.” The judges thought the technique was lacking and the hardworking actor received 17 from the judges.
The usually overly focused Jett Kenny took a load off and showed his fun and carefree side in a bouncy jive routine toDespicable Me 2’s Happy, scoring a high score 21 from the judges, while fitness mogul Michelle Bridges showed a softer side performing an ethereal Viennese waltz to Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years from the mega hit Twilight that resulted in the high score of 24.
Jimmy “Sizzle” Rees brought his steamy side and took charge in a Viennese waltz to 50 Shades Of Grey stunner Earned It by The Weeknd, raising the temperature not only in the audience but also on the judging panel. After criticising Jimmy’s ballroom technique, Craig Revel Horwood went on to admit “I loved this dance, I really loved it!”, with the pair whisking away with the score of 21.
The final celebrity performance of the evening was Courtney Act who quickstepped her way through I Won’t Dance from the Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire movie classic Roberta. With her eye on reclaiming her crown, Courtney put her glitzy feet forward, toppling Olympia from her perch and reclaiming the top spot with an outstanding score of 26.
Unfortunately the extra challenge took its toll for Olympia and after hearing the final results, said: “I can’t believe I’m getting voted out in this outfit!”
With Olympia farewelling the competition tonight, seven celebrities remain to take part in the action-packed dance-off show where the celebrities have all the power, next week on Dancing With The Stars.
