“This is an historic landmark for us because together with our recent acquisition of NWS Adelaide it heralds the formation of a truly national Nine Network across Australia, with all the competitive strengths and advantages that offers.

“And to reinforce that milestone, we today announce the appointment of David Mott as the Managing Director of Channel Nine Perth”

Mr Gyngell said he regarded David Mott as one of the outstanding executives in contemporary Australian television.

David Mott was the head of programming at the TEN Network from 1997 until 2012 where he was responsible for commissioning mega hits including Australian Idol, Big Brother, Masterchef, Biggest Loser and Offspring , and previously worked in various senior programming roles at Channel 7 in Perth from 1978 to 1994

David Mott said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been asked by David Gyngell to take over as Managing Director of STW9 Perth, and as a senior member of the executive programming team working with Andrew Backwell and of course Michael Healy across all aspects of Nine.”

“The Nine Network has a formidable depth of content and while Perth is a highly competitive market, I look forward to working with the many talented people at STW9.”

Nine Network Director of Television Michael Healy, who began his career at STW9, said he feels a personal sense of excitement and optimism with Perth joining the Nine Network family.

“The appointment of David Mott really adds a very talented executive to our programming team with Andrew Backwell, and great strength to our company. I’m personally very excited to have David on board and look forward to working closely with him,” he said.
