Nine announces new drama, Love Child.

Well this is a surprise Nine took the chance last night to announce a new Drama project from Playmaker Media: Love Child.

The Production has singed former Packed to the Rafters stars  Jessica Marais and Ryan Corr

The eight-part mini-serieshas also signed The Slap’s Jonathan LaPaglia and Howzatfavourite, Mandy McElhinney for the TV romp which begins in 1960s Kings Cross.

The new local drama, announced during Nine’s Logies telecast, has been touted as a character journey following those “caught in the crossfire…of the cultural and sexual revolution.”

“Their lives intersect between the Haven, a maternity hospital and home for unwed mothers, and the wild streets of Darlinghurst beyond the hospital walls.”

Marais will return from the US where she has been filming the cable series, Magic City

The network’s co-head of drama, Jo Rooney said: “Love Child is a compelling and uplifting series that will appeal to every generation, from Gen Y to baby boomers and beyond.

“The stories of young women and men fighting an unjust system are as relevant today as they were in the colourful, confronting and liberating world of Kings Cross in 1969.”

Pre-production is expected to start in Sydney shortly, with further cast announcements to come.
