Neighbours says farewell to a legend

The time has come for a local legend to make his final appearance on Neighbours.

That legend is, of course, our beloved ‘Jelly Belly’ Harold Bishop (Ian Smith). The news come after new friend Agnes Adler (Anne Charleston) recently discovered she was Madge’s cousin and made the move to Erini Rising.

As Agnes moves in, Harold drops the surprising news that he is moving back to Port Douglas to be with granddaughter Sky and wife Lana, a move that will be for good. He suggests to Agnes that they stay in touch as pen pals.

When news of his impending departure reaches Ramsay Street, the residents come together to throw Harold a farewell party. In attendance for the occasion are Paul (Stefan Dennis), Terese (Rebakah Elmaloglou), Jane (Annie Jones), Karl (Alan Fletcher), Susan (Jackie Woodburne), Aaron (Matt Wilson) and Harold’s great nephew Max (Ben Jackson). Emotions are running high as memories are shared about their much-loved friend and neighbour.

Jo Zantuck gets to close out not only this chapter of a Neighbours icon, which includes a few surprises, but also Ian Smith’s own acting career as he finally steps away from the spotlight.

After 38 years popping in and out of Erinsborough, it’s clear Harold will be missed.

Neighbours airs Monday-Thursday at 4:00pm on 10, with episodes repeated at 6:30pm on 10Peach Comedy.
