NCIS: Sydney Season 3 Review

NCIS: Sydney Season 3 Review

This week Paramount+ launches a new season of its Australian original NCIS: Sydney.

When we last left the NCIS/AFP team, Mackey (Oliva Swann) realised that her friend Etienne (John Fabry) was in a league with some seriously dangerous terrorists and that he was controlling Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) via a remote-control pacemaker. After confronting Etienne while at dinner, an all-out brawl ensued until JD (Todd Lasance) showed up and delivered a kill shot straight to Etienne’s head. The incident took a toll on both JD and Mackey, but it was Blue (Mavournee Hazel) who experienced the final surprise when she arrived home to find a woman sitting in her living room.

Now, a few weeks have passed since the mysterious woman Aspira (Doris Younane) managed to break through Blue’s multiple deadlocks, and the team is still feeling the impacts of their Darwin trip. Mackey is in an interesting place while JD is entering the dating scene via the apps for the first time.

Elsewhere DeShawn (Sean Sagar) and Evie’s (Tuuli Narkle) banter continues to be on point as they deal with the arrival of Blue’s temporary replacement Trigger (Claude Jabbour), and Doc (William McInnes) adjusts to Blue’s absence.

But there’s not much downtime to focus on an office without Blue as the team investigate Navy aviators Price (Mark Webber) and Daniels (Damon Manns) who are found adrift in the Coral Sea. They tell Mackey and JD that they have just escaped from a freighter after six weeks of terrorist captivity, but in reality they have been gone for six years.

It’s an interesting cast that kicks off season 3, which promises to be its most personal yet. Showrunner Morgan O’Neill, who pens the opening hour, has some exciting things planned for our favourite NCIS and AFP team this season.

Three seasons in and the cast have well and truly found their groove, so you won’t want to miss all the Aussie action in your NCIS binge as all three series make their return.

5 Stars

NCIS: Sydney returns to Paramount+ with season three October 14, with new episodes weekly.
