Tonight, Neighbours fans and the Canning family are treated to a surprising return no one saw coming.
A grieving Sheila (Colette Mann) has been bordering on delusion as she deals with the loss of her son, insisting the Gary the Pigeon is her son reincarnated. So naturally she’s shocked when daughter Naomi (Morgana O’Reilly) makes a return to Erinsborough out-of-the-blue.
Sheila is elated but totally unaware that Kyle (Chris Milligan) called his aunt in for reinforcement as Sheila continues to struggle with her grief. Naomi quickly gets the handle on things, an after catching up with some of her friends – Toadie (Ryan Maloney), Susan (Jackie Woodburne) and ex-fiancé Paul (Stefan Dennis) – she quickly realises things are worse than she first thought. Will she be able to get her mother back to her old self?
Actually, the bigger question is how will Sheila react when she learns the real reason her daughter is back in town, and just how long is everyone’s favourite wild Canning going to be around for? Without giving too much away, this is certainly going to be a memorable guest stint.
Sarah Mayberry pens a wonderful return, which sees Morgana steal the show alongside another amazing performance by Colette, who’s seriously been knocking it out of the park these last few months. The dynamic between Morgana, Colette and Chris is like they’ve not be apart for the past five years.
As Sheila always says, Cannings are made of tough stuff, but will Naomi’s return help them to return to a softer side? Only time will tell.
