My Brilliant Friend returns to Fox Showcase in March

My Brilliant Friend – The Story of a New Name, based on the second book in Elena Ferrante’s bestselling quadrilogy, will make its Australian debut next month.

The follow-up chapter to the critically lauded first season, My Brilliant Friend – The Story of a New Name continues the story of Elena (Margherita Mazzucco) and Lila (Gaia Girace).

The acclaimed My Brilliant Friend book series follows the tale of Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Lila Cerullo. A writer, immersed in a house full of books, Greco turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their tempestuous friendship, starting from the point when Elena met Lila in their first year of school in 1950.

Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives, as she tries to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant friend and, in a way, also her best friend and worst enemy.

Filmed on location in Italy, the 8 x 60 minute Italian language series is directed by returning director from season one, Saverio Costanzo. Costanzo will direct six episodes and Alice Rohrwacher will direct two episodes.

Wednesday, March 11 at 7.30pm AEDT Streaming on Foxtel and screening on Fox Showcase
