Mel B returns to Seven for The X Factor

In one of the most intriguing developments all year Mel B has been revealed as the Underdog Judge on The X Factor.

Mel B is no stranger to The X Factor was on The X Factor Australia in 2011 and 2012 until Seven released her from her contract due to family issues and visas for Australia. But when Nine snapped her up for Australia’s Got Talent in 2013, Seven successfully  took her to court for breach of contract.

On her return to the show, the outspoken judge said: “I’m a fighter, a fierce competitor and love mentoring upcoming artists, so the Underdog Judge role is a perfect fit for me.

Never one to shy away from a challenge she added, “Guy, Iggy and Adam are going to be left with egg on their face.”

Leading a new category of ‘underdog’ contestants, Mel B now has the opportunity to hand pick artists that current judges will send home in the Three Seat Challenge. “I know I’ve got what it takes to turn this year’s hopefuls into stars,” she quipped.

On the shakeup, Iggy Azalea said, “If Mel B wins the competition with an act I said no to, I’ll never forgive myself”. Guy Sebastian added: “She got the title of Scary Spice for a reason”.

No stranger to The X Factor desk, Mel was a member of the judging panel in 2011 and 2012.

On her return to Aussie shores she added, “My family and I love Australia and cannot wait to get back there.”

Mel B’s Underdog category is set to take on Adam’s Under 22s, Guy’s Over 22s and Iggy’s Groups. Her Underdog hopefuls will be revealed during The X Factor’s first live show later this month.

The X Factor airs 7pm Sunday 7:30 pm Monday and Tuesday on Seven.
